About Swept Away, Inc. Chimney Sweep!
A chimney sweep in Florida?...how did that happen?..This is a question that we hear all the time...so let me tell you how this happened.
Tom grew up in Philadelphia, Pa. and never once aspired to be a sweep...I think he had dreams of travel and adventure which led him to join the Navy at a young age...stationed on an aircraft carrier was fun and adventure, especially when he threw the wrong item in the incinerator and blew it up...that’s when the captain, unaware that he we starting a lifetime career for Tom, said, “You broke it, you fix it”.
so that’s how Tom learned to lay brick.
After the navy, Tom was in California looking for a job when he read an ad for a chimney sweep...the ad read, “must be experienced at laying brick”...over 50 people applied for the job but Tom knew the most about laying brick and before long he knew the most about chimneys.
then came the earthquakes and the chimneys needed rebuilding and Tom learned even more ..but after narrowly escaping the collapse of a bridge, he decided to leave California..he gained even more experience as he worked in many states for many companies.
Growing tired of the cold, Tom decided to move to Florida and find a new career...instead, he learned that Florida had lots of fireplaces and also lots of dryer exhaust systems that needed his help..he became even more professional and started his own company in the bay area 20 years ago...he joined the “National Chimney Sweep Guild” and the “Chimney Safety Institute”, he became president of the “Florida Guild of Professional Chimney Sweeps”..now he had the expertise and knowledge of all the members.
Tom has kept abreast of advancements in the industry..investing in camera scanning equipment when he downloaded to a floppy disk...he has the equipment to clean dryer vents in high rise buildings or large complexes where efficiency and professionalism is required.
Chimney Sweep in Florida?...wouldn’t live anywhere else !!!
